Leo loved going on an adventure with his grandpa. This weekend was his first chance for a real journey — a camping trip to Eagle Island. It was too short a trip for a flight, so they planned to go by car and boat instead.
They packed a tent, some food, and a map into their bags. Leo felt excited, but a little afraid too. He had never been to an island before.
“Don't worry,” Grandpa said. “I will guide you and protect you. We will stay safe.”
They drove through a small village, then took a small boat across the water. The waves were calm, and soon they saw the island ahead.
Eagle Island was full of wild nature — tall trees, green grass, and a cool stream running through the wood.
In the middle of the island stood an ancient castle with a giant tower. “It looks amazing,” Leo said.
“That castle is very old,” Grandpa said. “Some people say it can be dangerous at night.”
They walked into the castle's hall for a moment, then went back outside to set up camp near the stream.
The view of the huge mountain behind the castle looked incredible in the sunlight. The hike there had been tough, but Leo felt proud.
As the sky grew dark, they heard an odd sound near the tent. For a moment, Leo felt afraid.
“Stay calm,” Grandpa said. “Let's guard the camp tonight, and hunt for clues in the morning.”
The next morning, Leo's food bag had disappeared! “Someone stole my food!” Leo said. “Maybe a thief came in the night!”
Grandpa smiled. “Let's find some evidence first,” he said. “Making a good guess means using evidence.”
They found small marks on the ground near the tent, and a torn piece of grass close by.
“This is good evidence,” Grandpa said. “What animal do you think made these marks?”
Leo looked at the marks carefully. “They're too small for a big animal,” he said. “Maybe it's not a thief. Maybe it's a wild animal.”
They followed the marks past a big rock and around the tower. There, they found a wild goat eating the last piece of bread!
Leo laughed. “It wasn't a thief — it was a hungry goat!” “You were very brave last night,” Grandpa said, “and your evidence helped you make a smart guess too.”
That night, they sat by the fire and looked at the moon in the dark sky. “This was an incredible adventure,” Leo said. “It's a good story for a rainy day,” Grandpa said, and they both smiled, safe and happy on Eagle Island.
